Industrial Relations Shadow Minister Robert Clark told Parliament this week the police station was one of 15 around the state with 12 or more officers to receive the extra position under proposed changes.
He said PCOs were only responsible for transporting “low risk” prisoners.
“In other circumstances, where it is not appropriate, a sworn officer will be responsible for the transportation,” Mr Clark said.
