The Anytime Fitness 24-hour treadmill challenge ran from 6pm Friday until 6pm Saturday, asking people to step up and show support for Suicide Prevention Australia by donating $15 to run or walk in 15-minute time slots.
Connor Hardy smashed through more than 130 kilometres on his own at North Albury over the 24-hour period, still going strong when the challenge finally ended, with plenty of moral support.
He helped that gym alone raise more than $3000.
Anytime Fitness was aiming for a national total of $500,000.
Anytime Fitness Wangaratta manager Amy Fuller was confident they would also pass their fundraising goal of $1500.
“I’m just incredibly proud, we pretty much filled every time slot,” she said.
“We definitely did have a lot of support.
“One guys was on there for three and a half hours.
“On Facebook he was getting his mates to dare him to do another 15 minutes and it just got to the point he was clocking up three hours.”
Ms Fuller said the challenge was important because suicide was the leading cause of death for 18-44 year olds and exercise provided natural endorphins which are good for mental health.
