Bonat has confirmed he will definitely play and it could be as early as Saturday’s away blockbuster against Albury.
The Pigeons’ ace suffered an horrific 30-centimetre gash in his leg during a work accident with fencing equipment on May 2.
“I started training last week with the boys, so it’s not going too bad mate,” he said.
“I’ll definitely play this year and it will definitely be before finals.”
That is a massive boost to the Pigeons’ hopes of unseating Albury, although Bonat will naturally need to be given time to find some form.
The rugged midfielder is one of the league’s fittest players, but he’s taken that to another level in his burning desire to return.
He’s launched a torturous seven day a week campaign, spending 10 hours a week solely on improving his left leg.

“The first thing was just to get my leg feeling better, so whether that was just getting it right to get back to work, just to get a bit of normality,” Bonat said.
“And obviously having the football season still going, that certainly helped for motivation and with the boys going alright, I’ve certainly always enjoyed playing, so I’d love to be a part of it.”
And it could be as early as the Tigers’ blockbuster.
“I haven’t ruled it out,” he said.
“I trained last week mate and it felt alright, but I got the flu towards the end of the week which isn’t ideal, so I’ll train this week and, all things going well, if I feel alright, I’ll hope to play.”
The Pigeons sit third, but face three top five teams.
