The 56-year-old Beechworth man was driving north along Beechworth-Chiltern Road about 7.50am when he lost control of his Mitsubishi Triton ute, which had been towing a trailer.
The car veered off the road to the right, hit a ditch, and flipped onto its roof.
Leading Senior Constable Glen Allardyce said the man crawled out the car.
“He was trapped initially in the vehicle, but he’s managed to get himself out,” he said.
“He’s lucky to have got out of that.”
The man was taken to Wodonga hospital by ambulance to get checked out as a precaution.
Police were still investigating the cause of the crash.
Beechworth-Chiltern Road remained open while police, firefighters and paramedics were on the scene.
