It was for this reason the first-time parent from Woragee sought out the Parents and Babies Service on Benson Street in Wodonga.
“I’m wanting to get some tips on sleep-settling and how to pick up on his (communication) cues,” she said.
“It’s amazing there’s a place like this, and there’s someone to talk to.
“You don’t always realise the services available.”
The service held its first open day since family health organisation Tresillian joined Albury Wodonga Health as a provider – October will mark two years of the partnership.
Manager Debbie Stockton wanted to spread the word about the support and programs her seven-member team provided.
“It can be a really joyful time when you have a new baby, but when you’re doing it tough, you need support around you – you need to know you’re not alone,” she said.
“Some of the women and men who are seeking help from us have been experiencing anxiety, there might be depression, or there are other challenges in their lives.
“Then you add in the stress of a new baby and it can be a hard time.
“We want to ensure parents aren’t at home distressed or feeling at a lost as to what to do, not knowing there’s help out there.”
Ms Stockton said parents got a taste on Thursday of the support the service provides – including for post-natal depression and breast feeding, understanding babies’ cues and perinatal issues.
“The partnership with Tresillian meant we were able to see more families, including through an early intervention home visiting program,” she said.
“The focus of that particular program is really around helping parents to understand their babies’ needs, both physical but also emotional, and supporting them with that.”

Tresillian also provides an around-the-clock parent helpline, on 1300 272 736.
