“Yeah, I suppose we do, we’ve played footy together since little kids,” Tom said.
“I think it becomes second nature, Sam does what I do.”
Sam, 24, is 17 months older than Tom.
“Yeah, it’s funny how it works sometimes, you kind of find each other quite a lot,” Sam said.
“I think that playing footy, growing up with each other, we used to kick the footy, flat out on the street, all the time.”
The pair exemplify the Panthers’ mantra of team-first.
“We don’t have a lot of stars in our team, but we just want to play our role and that’s probably one of the best things about our team at the moment,” Tom said.
Lavington has now qualified for its sixth successive finals campaign in coach James Saker’s reign.
“Something that ‘Sakes’ has been really big on since the start is that we’re not a team of superstars, but we all play our role,” Sam said.
“A champion team is better than a team of champions, so if we can all play your role, it’s going to be a lot better.”
Tom admits though his goal from near the boundary might have tested the team-first mentality.
“I would have been ripped by my team-mates if I’d missed,” he laughed.
