The club’s Sullivan Cup outfit will tackle Young in the under 16 grand final, while the ladies league tag team faces powerhouse, Wagga Brothers.
“Brothers have won most of the grand finals and we played them last year,” Thunder president Rick O’Connell said.
“And the last time we played in the Sullivan Cup grand final, in 2006, we were beaten 22-18 by Young.”
The Cherrypickers are a traditional power at the junior level, producing a host of NRL first graders, including former NSW fullback Brett Mullins.
The match will pit Country representatives Thomas Jenkins (Young) and the Thunder’s Jeremy Wiscombe.
“Jeremy’s got good pace and he can really play,” O’Connell said.
“He’s on track to get noticed by NRL clubs.”
The club will also be represented by Albury Lightning in the disability challenge league tag.
Meanwhile, Southcity will look to defend its first grade title against Gundagai.
The Tigers toppled Junee to end a 32-year drought in 2015, but Southcity ended their reign in last year’s decider.
Southcity captain-coach Nick Skinner believes the team is well prepared to handle a Tigers’ onslaught at Equex Centre.
The Bulls have only played once in the last month, the 26-22 win over Gundagai in the major semi-final, but Skinner is not concerned.
“We have had a good preparation,” he said.
“Everyone talks about what is the ideal situation but I just think it is just about turning up and giving our best.
“We have had a few good training runs now so we we will ready to go.”
The Bulls have had an extra training session to help negate a lack of game time.
While there is still no Kyle McCarthy, the return of hooker Pani Manawatu will be a big boost and Skinner expects the crafty dummy-half will have an impact.
“Pani is a big part of the side and a good leader around the team,” he said.
"It is just an added bonus having him there.”
Gundagai is the only team to topple Southcity, claiming a 24-22 thriller in round two.
