Machines at Wodonga Plaza and the city’s railway station and library will be indoors, while the sole outdoor console will be at Junction Place.
The Wodonga Ratepayers’ Association president Ian Deegan said his group was pursuing a tourist centre with private enterprise.
“We’ve got a team of volunteers that would go on a roster system to man it,” Mr Deegan said.
He had hoped the council may have paid part of the rent on a site.
The association is holding a meeting on October 10 to discuss the plan.
Mr Deegan reiterated criticism of dumping the information centre.
“You want to speak face-to-face with someone that knows the area...you can’t get that from a terminal, you can’t question a terminal,” he said.
