The company behind the event which attracted thousands of people to the tourist town over five days in early January has lodged a planning application with Moira Shire for an expanded presence.
If approved by council, the carnival will operate on a vacant, privately-owned block of land between Witt and Hunt streets and be open from December 20 and January 28 _ excluding Christmas Day _ and public holidays including Easter and Anzac Day.
The carnival will also operate as a licensed venue and catering for a peak daily patronage of 690 people.
Food Truck Carnival Company director Mark Lipshut couldn’t be contacted for comment by The Border Mail.
Yarrawonga-Mulwala Tourism and Business chairman Doug Evans said he had only been made aware of the planning application.
“To this point it hasn’t come up to the board,” he said.
“Something of this broader nature should be well canvassed with the stakeholders of the two towns.
“It affects both of them.”
The planning application states: “The number of staff will vary depending on the time of shift with more being required during the peak periods.
“Security and door staff will also be employed at peak periods.
“The premises manager and other staff will be responsible for ensuring the orderly conduct of patrons attending the premises, including those arriving and dispersing from the venue.
“Music will only be played during opening hours and will consist primarily of background music.”
The planning application also states food trucks won’t serve pizza, pasta and fish and chips.
Last year, Moira Shire approved 18 food trucks to be set-up on the foreshore over five days after an initial request for 35 trucks over 10 days.
The council has declined to comment during the public notification period which ends on October 16.
Council general manager Mark Henderson said in the lead-up to the inaugural food truck event it would be “good opportunity” to market the region to a new area of visitors and encourage return visitation.
“This is a first regional trial and is expected to attract significant visitation to the town and the shire,” he said.
