North East hospitals and health services are benefiting from $3.8 million in state government funding to ease the burden of the 2017 flu season.
Albury Wodonga Health is receiving $1.7 million, Northeast Health Wangaratta $1.3 million, Yarrawonga Health $129,044, Beechworth Health Service $78,564, and Alpine Health $126,932.
Tallangatta Health Service, Upper Murray Health and Community Services, Benalla Health and Walwa Bush Nursing Hospital are also sharing in $303,489.
Northern Victoria MLC Jaclyn Symes said the funding would ensure the services had enough support going into the end of the year, after a rise in flu-related emergency department presentations.
“Hospitals across Victoria, including here in Northern Victoria, have been feeling the pressure this flu season,” she said.
“Our dedicated doctors, nurses, paramedics and other healthcare workers have done a remarkable job in the face of unprecedented demand – ensuring patients are receiving the first class care they deserve.
“This Labor Government funding will be key to supporting our local hospitals to keep delivering the quality care our patients need.”
More than 14,000 flu cases reported across Victoria so far and emergency departments recorded their largest ever August on record.
