The ACCC’s inquiry into the competitiveness of prices, trading practices and the supply chain in the Australian dairy industry has been extended by five months, with its interim report to be released in late November.
The treasurer Scott Morrison granted the ACCC’s extension request.
“We sought the extension to allow us to consult with the industry through an interim report,” the ACCC said.
“This report will contain interim findings and recommendations based on our analysis of issues such as competition between milk processors, contracts between processors and farmers and the impact of domestic retail prices on the industry.”
The treasurer asked the ACCC to hold an inquiry into dairy 12 months ago, and it formally started on November 1. The final report is now due on April 30, 2018.
