Despite the horrendous conditions, the double-header at Jelbart Park involving Albury United, Melrose, Albury City and Cobram provided much-needed funds to Headspace Albury-Wodonga, YES Unlimited, Mind Australia and Centacare Albury.
The concept was the brainchild of Melrose defender Liam Mackay, with the theme of the round “Let’s Talk” aimed at encouraging more people within the community to start conversations around mental health.
“The support behind the round was phenomenal,” Mackay said.
“The feedback from all organisations was all positive, saying the awareness we helped raise for their service has attributed to increase in usage of their service.
“That was one of the aims of the round.”
Mackay added AWFA did an excellent job getting behind the idea.
“We hope the round continues into the future and with the support of AWFA and the organisations involved, it will have an incredibly positive future,” Mackay said.
“The main aim of the round was to raise awareness for mental health and the services in our local region.
“Feedback from everywhere and everyone I have spoken to has been nothing but positive and indicates we have achieved this aim.
“The day was a huge success due to the involvement of all clubs within the league, the organisations and the association.”
