Meriden Blue’s Violet and Patricia Apisah and Komaki Ido are representing the perennial heavyweight in the girls competition.
Violet and Patricia’s sister, Marcia, formerly lived and played on the Border and has gone on to achieve some creditable results around the world.
“The overall standard this year is a step up,” tournament co-ordinator John Ferguson said.
“Particularly in the girls.
“Some of the boys are in the top-150 as well so there are some really good players here again.
“It just shows what a launching pad this tournament is.
“Some mightn’t get as far as Luke Saville or Jordan Thomson, but definitely if they want to be solid players on circuits they will do it.”
For some of the youngsters, this week will be the first time they have played on grasscourts.
