Melbourne Stars’ Pietersen will join ex-English star Ian Botham and soccer’s Harry Kewell to have played at Lavington Sportsground.
The Stars have been the highest-profile team in Big Bash history and they don’t come any bigger than the controversial Pietersen.
Apart from a practice game against the Melbourne Renegades last Friday, he hasn’t played for months, but says he doesn’t need to work his way into form after the break.
“I just draw on my experience for 17-18 years of playing first-class cricket, international cricket,” he said.
Despite their lofty reputation, the Stars have never won the BBL as representative commitments have derailed their hopes towards the end of the competition.
But Pietersen says this year will be different.
“I think that we’ve got enough players who have played for the Stars through those opportunities over the last two of three seasons who can really make a difference,” he said.
The Stars boast a star-studded line-up in Pietersen, the blockbusting Glenn Maxwell and dashing Englishman Luke Wright, to name a few.
Pietersen’s presence can only boost the crowd, with nearly 4000 tickets sold by 6.30pm on Monday night.
The match starts at 6.30 on Tuesday night.
