Telstra Country Wide is swinging open the doors to the Kiewa Street exchange as part of its 10-year anniversary.
Riverina Murray area general manager Andrew Cottrill said Albury was the first location for Telstra Country Wide when it was formed in 2000.
“There’s an enormous amount of technology and much of it, if you look upstairs where there was massive old exchange equipment, is now all compressed into a few racks,” he said.
“The technology has changed quite a bit.
“This one part now won’t change until we see fibre optic starting to become more common going out to customers’ premises.”
The exchange connects to about 10,000 phones in Albury.
It is also the parent exchange to 273 others across the Riverina Murray region.
Mr Cottrill said the open day would include guided tours through the building, as well as a dis- play of early model tele-phones through to the latest video and home phones.
A special on-site feature will be the Telstra emergency communications kit.
