The Border outfit outclassed NPL side Green Gully 2-0 in a practice match at Wodonga’s La Trobe University on Sunday.
Murray’s defence held firm for the 90 minutes, despite Green Gully fielding a strong side in the second half of the contest.
Zac Walker opened the scoring in the 67th minute, finishing a blocked shot from the boot of Gonzalo Freddi.
But Freddi wasn’t to be denied, adding a goal of his own five minutes from full-time to hand the Border outfit an impressive victory.
Murray coach Elliot Jones was delighted with his side’s performance.
“We knew Green Gully would be a really big test for us in terms of our defensive structure,” Jones said.
“We spoke before the game about being really compact, organised and hard to break down.
“We feel like we executed the game plan really well, so we’re rapt with that.”
Young winger Tom Morrison continued his excellent pre-season with another stellar performance after returning to Murray from Eastern Lions.
The two sides also faced Capital Football NPL side Riverina Rhinos at La Trobe on Saturday, with Murray winning 5-3 after a slow start, while Green Gully finished 10-0 victors.
Murray’s road to round one of the NPL 2 season continues with a trip to Brunswick on Sunday for under 20s and senior matches.
