Gordon Gibson Nominees has been given the task of installing new drainage, irrigation, fencing and team shelters at the ground, starting in the next few weeks.
It has been closed since May 2016, when lead contamination was discovered.
Work to remove lead-contaminated soil took place over the past few weeks.
Wangaratta Council is still awaiting confirmation the ground is “lead free”, with test results expected soon.
Mayor Ken Clarke said the next stage of works would allow football to return to North Wangaratta, hopefully by the Queen’s Birthday long weekend.
“It’s pleasing to see this contract go to a local company,” he said.
“We’re one step closer to North Wangaratta getting their home ground back.”
The council is managing the clean-up operation using $3 million allocated to the project by the Victorian government.
