“Having continuity is very important, this is my third year with BJR and it just makes a big difference being with the same team year on year. I love it there, it’s just very enjoyable,” Slade said.
With the teams heading to Adelaide this weekend for the 2018 season opener, BJR have been busy building three new ZB Commodores.
The Albury squad has also changed engine suppliers.
“We now have the same engines as Triple Eight who have dominated the sport for the last decade, it just means we can cross the engine off the list and concentrate on chassis development,” Slade said.
“We developed some new parts which seemed to work well at a test we did at the end of last season.
“Combined with the good progress we made during the year, I’m pretty hopeful that we will be very competitive.”
Last year was the first since 2012 that BJR hasn’t won a race in Supercars, a situation Slade hopes to rectify.
Slade was the fastest at last week’s test event at Sydney ahead of round one.
“We were quick there (Adelaide) last year, so I’m hopeful that with all the work we’ve done in the off-season we’ll be thereabouts again this year,” Slade said.
“It’s only the second time I’ve had three consecutive years with the same team and it’s a good feeling.
“These guys are like family now, and I can’t wait for the racing to start.”
Practice is on Friday before 250km races on both Saturday and Sunday.
