WANGARATTA High School reasserted itself as the Victoria’s best breeding ground for emerging skiers by claiming its third successive Victorian Interschools Cross Country Championships title at Mount Buller on Sunday.

Wangaratta took out the trophy for top co-educational Cross Country Ski School, beating heavyweights Peninsula, Geelong, Ivanhoe and Melbourne Grammar along the way.
Twenty-one Wangaratta students in 14 teams competed at the event with 10 teams qualifying for the national championships which will be held in Perisher, NSW, next month.
Aislinn Kildea, Anna Lorenz and Bridget Lorenz (division 1 girls, years 11 and 12 relay), Ben Kaye, Louis Grech and Lachie Thomas (division 2 boys, years 9 and 10), Xanthea Dewez, Georgia Haines, Madi Muir (division 2 girls, years 9 and 10) all won gold medals while Alasdair Tutt claimed gold and the perpetual trophy in the division 1, year 11 and 12 boys classic event.
Kaye did likewise in the division 2, year 9 and 10 boys, following in the footsteps of Olympian Paul Murray.
The team was coached and managed by Monica Jago and Rob Findlay.
“As coaches we were absolutely delighted with the team’s performance,” Jago said.
