In a move to strengthen the link between the club’s past and present, the Panthers will don the Lavington Saints guernsey from the 1950s when it was in the Tallangatta league.
Former player Ian “Knuckles” Grayland said it was a fearsome era.
“I went to Lavington in 1956 when the club was playing in the Chiltern and District league and there was a big brawl in the grand final and the competition ended up folding,” he said yesterday.
“We combined with Jindera the next year before playing in the Tallangatta league as the Lavington Saints in 1958.
“I hope we get a good few at the game on Saturday.”
Lavington will hold a function at the sports club tomorrow night where memorabilia will be on display.
The function starts at 6.30pm.
Former Lavington players will be allowed free entry to tomorrow’s match.
