Early influences and shared interests are being celebrated in a Border art exhibition presented by three members of one family.

Next of Kin, now showing at GIGS Art Gallery, features pieces by photographer Scott Fredericks, his mother Pam Fredericks, who creates mosaic art, and her sister Joan Asmussen, a fibre artist.

Scott Fredericks said the joint show, their third together, came from realising the extent of the family’s artistic background.

“I’ve just always been immersed in it, I’ve never had any experiences outside of it,” he said.

“We hadn’t actually done anything together and just thought it was a good idea to do it.

“Really, it’s just an acknowledgement of who we all are and where we’ve come from.”

Next of Kin runs until April 8, with an official opening on Saturday, 4pm to 6pm.
