Auctioneer David Gittoes, of Elders Albury, said the council bought 48 Wilson Street at auction for $61,000 after bidding began at $35,000.
A second auction for 16 Spurr Street saw no bids but later offers, with negotiations continuing.
The lots were among 38 Greater Hume properties contaminated with loose-fill asbestos and the first put on the market after the houses were demolished and the land restored.
Greater Hume general manager Steven Pinnuck said the site had been bought for a specific purpose.
“Council has got a health-related project in mind for that allotment, which we’ve applied for some funding through the federal government,” he said.
