FOR almost quarter of a century the Tallangatta Farming Expo has been showcasing the best in all things farming.
This year marks the 25th birthday for the expo with a timely emphasis on sustainable farming including smallholding farming and sustainable living.
Organised by the Rotary Club of Tallangatta, the gates of this year’s expo will open on April 19 with exhibits that will delight both true-blue farmers and family visitors looking for a day out.
The event also promises to be very affordable with free entry for both farmers and the general public.
Being a farming expo the Tallangatta Farming Expo is built around exhibits of top interest to farmers.
Exhibits this year will cover traditional farming concerns such as machinery, fertiliser, fodder, animal genetics and fertility, water and fencing.
Other exhibits will promote the latest in sustainable and small farming as well as sustainable living including renewable energy and innovative building materials.
Taking part in two Focus on Farm Initiatives will be Viking Genetics who not only provide top quality semen to the dairy industry in Australia, but use the latest genetic research from Scandinavia and Europe to deliver superior results for Australian dairy farmers.
Don’t miss them at this year’s expo!
Families and the general public will also be well catered for at this year’s expo.
The event will provide an opportunity to purchase tools, oils, and clothing while many of the exhibits promoting sustainable living and practices will be of great interest to the general public.
Of utmost importance is food and the Tallangatta Rotary Food Van will be on hand to cater for the community.
Tickets for the Expo Raffle with over $1000 worth of product donated by North East Oils will be available for purchase. There are nine raffle draws in all, so remember you have to be in it to win it.
Upholding this year’s sustainable theme will be a competition giving school age children the chance to use their imaginations to create something useful from items destined for the scrap heap.
Aptly titled ‘Treasure from the Tip’, the competition offers a lucrative $250 of prize money in the primary age group and the secondary age group.
Another departure from the norm at this year’s expo will be the chance to listen to the exhibitors as they give ‘Tiny Talks Under the Towering Trees’ on topics important to them and their clients.
The informal talks are about 15 minute’s duration and will run hourly from 9.30am. Each will be situated under one of the beautiful trees around the showground.
Also open to all visitors is a Mitta Valley Landcare run feature on Biological controls of weeds and vermin.
