1. MICHAEL NEWTON (WANGARATTA)
League’s best big-game player. If he doesn’t play in the two biggest games – grand final and interleague –then Wangaratta and Ovens and Murray don’t win.

2. CHRIS SCHMIDT (NORTH ALBURY)
Starred at SANFL level last year. The midfielder is tough, skilful and a superb leader. His debut against Myrtleford on Sunday is the league’s most anticipated.
3. BRODIE FILO (RAIDERS)
Missed the last four games of the regular season, but still finished Morris Medal runner-up. Rates with former North Albury coach Jason Akermanis for best kick on both feet in last decade. Exhilarating.
4. NICK MEREDITH (LAVINGTON)
Played on Western Bulldogs’ premiership player Jake Stringer and Collingwood’s Mason Cox at VFL level, so will handle every forward thrown at him.
5. MARK WHILEY (YARRAWONGA)
Finished runner-up in the Morris Medal and polled in 10 of last 12 games to grab club best and fairest. Racks up a mountain of possessions and if he moves forward and kicks goals, he could climb higher.
6. MATT DUSSIN (MYRTLEFORD)
Kept Doug Strang medallist Josh Mellington goalless in the final round as he was chasing a century. That says it all. Strong, fiercely competitive, inspirational and can also play in the ruck.
7. JYDON NEAGLE (RAIDERS)
Won the club best and fairest and can play anywhere. The club’s Mr Fix It.
8. CHRISTIAN BURGESS (MYRTLEFORD)
Only played in nine games, but was named in the best in eight of them. Plays with such energy, everyone immediately lifts. Can’t wait to see a full season with the Saints.
9. SHAUN DALY (ALBURY)
Joined Tigers’ greats Jimmy Matthews and Terry Cross with his fourth best and fairest. In fact, in his last nine years, he’s won seven, with three at Mayne. Rated in stalwart Ross Ried’s top five Tigers. Enough said.
10. SIMON CURTIS (LAVINGTON)
Ainslie gun. Will be one of the league’s best kicks and can do any job asked of him. Inspirational leader.
11. MICHAEL BORDIGNON (WANGARATTA)
Kept Albury spearhead Josh Mellington to three goals twice. Second best defender behind Matt Dussin.
12. BRAYDEN O’HARA (ALBURY)
Polled the most Morris Medal votes of anyone in the second half of the year with 13. Also, strong grand final with his lethal left foot.
13. CRAIG EVANS (WANGARATTA)
Won the Bridgewater Callington best and fairest in SA. Has played SANFL and is super fit. Has kicked the winning goal in a grand final so can handle pressure.
14. MATT KELLY (WANGARATTA)
Named in the Pies’ best in their last six games. Wins his own ball and can then kick it 50 metres. Should play interleague. Never to be called underrated again.
15. HARRY WHEELER (YARRAWONGA)
Won Seymour’s best and fairest for GV preliminary finalists. Pushed into the league’s elite midfielders.
16. CHRIS HYDE (ALBURY)
If the top 25 was done at midway point, would have been top three. He claimed the Morris Medal, but polled only four votes in second half. One of the best conversion rates on goal for any on-baller.
17. DANIEL CROSS (ALBURY)
Sad to see his finals ruined by calf injury. However he did poll in his last two home and away games and a remarkable player.
18. JARROD HODGKIN (RAIDERS)
Same as Hyde. Finished joint runner-up in Morris Medal, but polled just three votes late. Top accumulator.
19. MAT GROSSMAN (WANGARATTA)
Would have been in the top 10, but polled in only one of his last nine games in the Pies’ best.
20. DANIEL LESLIE (NORTH ALBURY)
Some will argue, at 35, he’s no longer at the top level, but he’s versatile, strong and won the best and fairest.
21. DANIEL BOYLE (WANGARATTA)
Had a terrific run of form from July and a superb grand final, particularly early, with his bullocking charges from the centre.
22. FRAZER DALE (MYRTLEFORD)
Polled in all bar three of the Saints’ last nine for best and fairest.
23. MARTY BRENNAN (LAVINGTON)
Poster boy for district players, won club’s top award.
24. BRAD ST JOHN (RAIDERS)
Slow patch mid-year, but polled in five of last 10.
25. LUKE GARLAND (LAVINGTON)
Dangerous in either midfield or forward.
NOTABLE OMISSIONS
James Saker, Brant Dickson (injury) (Lavington), Dean Polo, Elliott Powell, Michael Duncan (injury), Joel Mackie (Albury), Mat Suckling (didn’t play), Dylan Van Berlo (Wangaratta), Daniel Bowles (Raiders), Connor Hargreaves (didn’t play second half), Tyler Bonat (back from serious injury) (Yarrawonga).
