Winless in 38 games prior to last week’s drought-breaking triumph over Wangaratta Rovers, the Roos again defied the pre-season talk in posting an 11.16 (82) to 7.10 (52) win in front of their enthusiastic fans.
“Our ability to get the ball back off them was excellent, we went in with a clear plan and to the boys’ credit, they executed it very well,” coach Marc Almond said.
The Roos frenetic defensive pressure forced the visitors into error with the quick rebound destroying the Saints’ hopes.
Dylan Cook was outstanding, while former Rutherglen player Cody Parker kicked five goals.
Fellow Rutherglen recruit Brendan Morris was another to shine, while Callum Spencer and James Hanrahan debuted.
Spencer’s father Darrell is a former Roos’ star.
The Saints were best served by captain Matt Dussin.
