The Saints were hammered by a Shaun Mannagh-inspired North Albury in round one, before falling to Corowa-Rutherglen by five goals.
“I think we’ve just got to lift our effort a little bit and our skill execution,” Burgess said.
“We’ve got a few injuries, but that’s not an excuse, everyone has to step up a little bit in that regard.”
The Saints’ players need only to follow their captain Matt Dussin for inspiration.
The Victoria Country representative has been named in the club’s top two players in their losses and attacks every contest like it’s his last.
The visitors haven’t been helped either with the suspension to the classy Lachie Dale.
