The five-month-long project by artists Tracie MacVean Artwork and Banana Joe was made possible by a crowdfunding campaign.
MacVean said the mural aimed to raise awareness of five threatened species in our region – the regent honeyeater, bush stone-curlew, crimson spider orchid, southern pygmy perch and smooth darling pea.
She said the 7-metre by 2-metre artwork was inside the Sustainable Activity Centre (SAC) at Gateway Island.
“We worked on it for two full days every week since December; the design is quite detailed,” she said.
MacVean said a time-lapse video of the project would be screened tomorrow.
“It shows five months of work in about 10 minutes,” she said.
A silent auction for the original mural design by Banana Joe will be held.
The event runs at the SAC from 6.30pm to 8pm.
An artist’s talk and high tea will be held at SAC on Saturday from 3pm to 4pm.
Bookings for both events are preferred through eventbrite.
