Wei Sim will play a leading role in the public health service’s cardiac catheter laboratory due to open in July.
Dr Sim moved to the Border with his wife Esther from Melbourne, where he had worked at St Vincent’s Private Hospital and Northern Hospital.
Originally from Malaysia, he attended medical school in Ireland and did his cardiology training in Perth.
Dr Sim said he was excited to help establish Albury Wodonga Health’s cath lab.
“To be part of something like this from the very beginning, it’s once in a lifetime,” he said.
“This very important project which I believe will make a big difference to the community of Albury-Wodonga, that was the challenge, really, that attracted me to this position.”
He became a doctor after watching his GP father.
“The nature of this job, the difference he can make to the lives of his patients and the community as well,” Dr Sim said.
