Lot 42 Minnamurra Nero N15 sold for $32,000 to a syndicate featuring North East studs at the third annual sale on May 25 at Coolah
It was the highest price paid for a Speckle Park bull in Australasia in 2018.
Te Mooi Speckle Park, Benalla, Munt Family Pastoral Speckle Park, Gundowring, and Hanging Rock Speckle Park, Newham, form the Victorian contingent and are joined by Glengarry Speckle Park, Oberon, and Parkvale Speckle Park, New Zealand while Minnamurra would also retaining an interest.
Despite the challenging season competition was strong.
Demand for the high marble meat is growing exponentially and the high quality offering saw spirited bidding.
“We can't fault him,” Paul Hourn, Hanging Rock Speckle Park, said. “He has everything going for him, his structure, disposition, he is the complete package.
“With softness, great skin, testicles, muscle, feet, soundness and he has the bone to make him a true stud sire.
“He will be a huge asset to the syndicate and is worth every cent.”
Such was the interest in Lot 42 that he was brought forward in the selling order and was presented after lot 2.
By the exciting Canadian sire JSF Redneck Whiskey, Nero is out of one of the breeds’ most desirable female families and was the top average daily weight gain bull on offer with extraordinary carcase traits as well.
Recently Queensland- based feedlot operators Mort and Co processed 148 Speckle Park cross calves by Nero's sire JSF Redneck Whisky.
They marbled up to 5 while still having their milk teeth and 100 per cent were MSA graded.
“The great strengths of Speckle Park are their yield, marbling and large eye muscle area, and Minnamurra Nero N15 combines wonderful carcase with tremendous growth, low birth weight, great structure and a wonderful temperament,” Paul Guy, Te Mooi Speckle Park, said.
“There is already a great deal of enquiry about the bull from Australia and overseas. He is a very exciting prospect.”
