Tipped as a genuine contender after finishing fourth last year, the Tigers fell to premiers Yarrawonga, 51-38.
It’s the Tigers third straight loss and they’ve dropped to sixth, a win behind Corowa-Rutherglen, which leapfrogged them into fifth.
The Pigeons’ Mal Nankervis and youngster Tilly Kennedy were outstanding, while Indiana Frauenfelder and Eliza York posted 25 goals apiece.
Sarah Moore, celebrating her 200th club game for Albury, landed 28 goals to be named the club’s best.
Meanwhile, Wangaratta coach Kellie Keen believes last week’s 20-goal loss against Lavington in the top of the table clash was just an aberration after toppling giant-killers Wodonga Raiders, 47-33.
“Exactly, look sometimes you need to have those games to refocus and look to the future games,” she said.
After holding a one-goal break at quarter-time, the home team blew the match apart with a 15-six second term.
Representative player Issy Byrne and Kate Dean were superb for the Pies, while Amanda Umanski (26 goals) and Keen (21) kept the visitors’ defence at bay.
“We wanted to contest the ball, we wanted to look for the best option and prize possession,” Keen said.
“We cut the errors down and played a good four-quarter effort.”

Georgia Thomas and Shaylah House were Raiders’ top players with 18 and 15 goals respectively.
North Albury’s Grace Senior has motored past 400 goals after bagging 45 in the 56-31 win over Myrtleford.
Senior now has 418 goals after round 11.
Hollie Kinning, Amelia Unthank and Molly Goldsworthy were terrific for the home side, while Grace McKerral and Grace Taberner were the pick of the visitors.
In the battle of top v bottom, Lavington crushed Wodonga, 68-25.
Alison Meani (32), Maggie Young (19) and Sarah Senini (17) were dangerous in attack, with Young and Sarah Meredith the game’s best players.
Wodonga captain Eleanor Keir and Laura Collins battled for the home side.
And the Roos pipped Wangaratta Rovers, 47-46.
Claire Wilson (23) and Zoe McLeish (17) provided the bulk of the scoring, with Ella Kingston and Emily Laracy lending strong support to Wilson.
The Hawks’ Caitlyn Cose did extremely well to snare 29 goals in a beaten outfit, with Sami Kreltszheim bagging 17, while Ally Peters also performed well.
