Mental Health Minister Martin Foley was in Wangaratta on Wednesday to make the announcement on the location, after the government revealed in May the city would be one of four locations to receive a 30-bed facility.
“These residential rehab facilities provide a structured, therapeutic and safe environment for people to address their alcohol and other drug issues so they get back on track and back into their communities,” he said.
“There are currently no state government funded residential rehabilitation services available in North East Victoria.
“This new facility means people in the North East can get the help they need, close to their homes and existing support networks.”
Construction of the new facility is expected to commence next year.
“There has been a lot of support for a drug and alcohol treatment facility in North East Victoria and Wangaratta is well positioned to assist country people get their lives back on track,” Northern Victoria MP Jaclyn Symes said.
