The combination of low temperatures, rainfall, and strong westerly winds has prompted the Bureau of Meteorology to issue a severe weather warning for the North East and a warning to the Riverina's sheep graziers.

There is a Severe Weather Warning for DAMAGING WINDS in place for the North East
Strong north to northwesterly winds ahead of a cold front is currently crossing Victoria.
Damaging winds averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts of around 90 km/h are expected to reach the North East on Thursday afternoon. Over Alpine areas, peak gusts of 110 km/h are possible until late this evening.
The cold front will bring heavy snow tonight with 20-30cm forecast for the Alpine Resorts down to 700m elevation for Mount Hotham.
Falls Creek recorded winds on Thursday morning of 78 km/h. Other locations which may be affected include Mt Hotham, Mt Buller and Omeo.
Farmers welcome rain over next seven days
To the joy of many farmers, the front will also bring rain across the Border into the Riverina.
The 7-day-forecast predicts a total of 11 millimetres for the Border and Riverina regions through to next Wednesday, with much of the falls concentrated before this weekend.
It is currently 16 degrees in Albury-Wodonga but the temperature will plummet on Friday to a maximum of 11 degrees when the cold front swiftly moves through the region.
Fortunately for lovers of the cold, the morning frost and fog will return at the weekend, before once again disappearing from Monday through to Wednesday next week.
The combination of cold, wet, and windy weather conditions in the next 24 hours – pose a greater risk to lambs and sheep.
The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 5:00 pm AEST Thursday.
