The projection is made in the latest airport master-plan to be tabled at Albury Council on Monday night.
The biggest cost identified in the next two years is about $4.6 million for taxiway upgrads plus a smaller amount of $182,000 to make land at the western end of the airport precinct “developer ready” for a proposed emergency operations centre expansion zone which is also one of the recommendations of the master-plan.
Since the mid-1990s, Albury has has served as a base for aerial firefighting operations summer and during the 2016/17 fire season, 10 aircraft, including planes and helicopters, were based at the airport.
The western section of the airport offers the most scope for expansion with general aviation hangars (private or business), helipads, aviation related business, freight and related warehousing and apron areas for parking of large charter and military aircraft are all identified as potential uses in the area.
