Walker kicked six goals in his best match for the TAC Cup club as the home team ran-out victors by 47 points.
He was strong in the contest and hit the scoreboard
- Leon Higgins
One of his goals came from a spectacular mark in the goal square in the last quarter.
“It was a really good performance by Matt,” coach Leon Higgins said.
“He was strong in the contest and hit the scoreboard.
“It was great to have him back in the side after being out for a while.”
While the Bushrangers won comfortably, the opening three quarters were tight with Walker, Jye Chalcraft, Ely Smith and Hudson Garoni having to work hard.
Robert Paradzayi provided good run and the defensive unit of Nick Murray, Tom Boyd, James Boyer and Liam Fiore combined well to repel many Western Jets forward entries.
Corowa-Rutherglen’s Will Chandler created havoc, particularly after half-time.
“It was a real slog for three quarters,” Higgins said.
“Our rucks and midfield kept us in it and I thought our ability to score enabled us to break away late.
The Bushrangers take on Calder Cannons at Albury from 1pm on Sunday.
