Mr Aplin announced on Wednesday night he would be standing down ahead of the NSW state election in March next year due to “recent personal and health issues”.
“It is with sadness and regret that I announce I will not be standing for pre-selection as the Liberal representative for the seat of Albury,” he said in a statement.
“Owing to recent personal and health issues I have made this difficult decision.
“It has been my honour and privilege to serve the community of the Albury electorate over the past 15 years and I will continue working for the community right up to the March 2019 election date.
“A pre-selection process will be undertaken by the NSW Liberal Party to select the best local candidate who will receive my full support and mentorship to ensure the many projects already announced and the many projects currently under consideration are followed through.”
