The incident occurred at the BP service station on the intersection of Ebden Street and Wodonga Place about 4pm on Monday.
A 43-year-old man and 39-year-old woman drove to the petrol station where they had arranged to meet a friend.
They parked their Holden Commodore next to a Mazda 3, which was being driven by a woman with a man in the front passenger seat.
The man got out and approached the pair, and demanded the driver's keys.
He motioned to pull a gun from the waist of his pants.
The victims got out and the armed man drove away with the Mazda following closely behind.
Police are searching for the Holden, which has registration plates CNZ 13B and the grey Mazda 3.
The Holden is listed as a white 2013 model sedan.
