Corowa and Wagga-based Amaranth Foundation gets five to seven referrals a week and has 3500 clients on its books.
It has outreach clinics in Albury-Wodonga, Chiltern, Wangaratta, Leeton, Narrandera, Griffith, Mulwala, Howlong and other Riverina sites.
Amaranth founder and chief executive Julianne Whyte OAM said yesterday they now offered a broad range of services as they tried to fill a gap in the market for people dealing with grief, loss and trauma.
Mrs Whyte said their clients ranged in age from four through to the elderly.
She said while people with chronic illness and other conditions that needed palliative care got the physical care they needed, mental health was often overlooked.
“When I founded Amaranth in 2009 I wanted to build a service and bring allied health together in a team that could deliver a unique model of wraparound care especially to meet the mental health needs for people dealing with chronic illness and end of life, their caregivers and family,” she said.
“Regional and rural people have specific needs and we are filling the gap delivering these services.”
Amaranth took out the Excellence in Small Business 11-20 Employees at the 2018 Federation Business Awards while Mrs Whyte was named Outstanding Business Leader recently.
Amaranth Foundation’s major fundraiser this year, A Spring Affair, will be held on September 1 at Atura Albury.
It will be hosted by actor and comedian, John Walker and Chris Pidd, both known for their work in promoting optimum mental health, to raise funds for the foundation’s chronic illness and palliative care programs.
People are urged to wear bright clothes and get some items in the silent auction or raffles including Inspiring Views accommodation, health and beauty services, Regent Cinema tickets and a die cast 1:12 scale model of 2015 Bathurst 1000 winner Craig Lowndes and Steve Richards Holden Red Bull team from Federation Tyrepower and Corowa Exhaust.
To book tickets ($70) visit Amaranth’s Facebook page or phone (02) 6033 1738.
A bus will bring people from Corowa.
Major sponsors are Atura Albury and Buller Wines.
