The nation-wide Garage Sale Trail is on again in just over a month, but Albury’s David Thurley and Wodonga’s John Watson are urging Border residents to get involved.
Cr Thurley said any effort to reduce the amount of rubbish in landfill was worth pursuing.
“We need to reduce waste and recycle things that shouldn’t be thrown away," he said.
“I think on the last Garage Sale Trail people made an average of around $300, so it's a great opportunity.
“If we want this landfill to go beyond 2015, we need to do some pretty special stuff.
“Finding space for another landfill is going to be pretty hard."
Registering to participate in the Garage Sale Trail is free, and can be completed at garagesaletrail.com.au.
Sales go ahead on October 20.
All the Halve Waste councils in the region will be taking part, including Indigo, Federation, Greater Hume and Towong, as well as Albury and Wodonga.
