Albury Hotspurs won’t play a part in this year’s senior men’s cup finals, but they’re aiming to make life difficult for league favourites Myrtleford at Aloysius Park on Sunday.

The South Albury venue is notorious for flooding, and, with rain expected across the weekend, it could prove a tricky surface for the smooth-moving Savoys.
“By the time it gets to the senior game, it will be nice and boggy,” Hotspurs’ coach Robert Tuksar said.
“Nothing would please me more than to upset Myrtleford this week, or at least annoy them, that would make me happy.
“We’ll be pretty similar to the way we have been the last three or four weeks.
“I think what’s helped us is we’ve been pretty settled, we got two wins before the bye which was important and we’ll take a bit of confidence from that.
“Last time, Myrtleford towelled us pretty heavily and we had our keeper sent off in the first 15 minutes.
“We’re virtually in a similar position points-wise to where we were last year.”
Myrtleford co-coach Jayden Vescio admitted clinching this year’s league title would mean even more than last year.
“When we came together for another pre-season, we put it on them and what they wanted to achieve this year after achieving absolutely everything, and it was to win the league championship again,” Vescio said.
“We’ve lost one more game this year, twice to Boomers and once to Wang, so to put ourselves in a situation (to win the league) with a game to spare is pleasing.
“Last year we had a golden run with injuries, I don’t think we changed the team for 11 consecutive weeks and when you’ve got that, it makes winning the league a lot easier.
“This year, I think the last two weeks were the only time we’ve had the same starting 11 for the whole year.”
Jesse Stephens will be a key omission for Myrtleford, having accumulated his fifth yellow card in last weekend’s 6-0 drubbing of Wangaratta, ruling him out of Star Player contention, while Raul Pahina is also in doubt.
However, Vescio will likely come through the reserves after recovering well from a knee injury.
“The knee has been good, I trained last week and if it was the last game of the season on the weekend, I probably would have got up and played,” he said.
“Will Keenan is playing some pretty good football in goals at the moment, but come finals, we might need that extra midfielder that can go through there.
“We really want to win the league this weekend, we don’t want to wait another week because we would like to put some guys on ice and assess what we’ll do the week after.”
