Jack McLean, 26, was denied bail by magistrate John Murphy on Thursday following the collision on Wednesday.
The Wodonga Magistrates Court heard McLean had been a passenger in a vehicle which crashed at the intersection of Hume and Lawrence streets about midday.
He was allegedly seen by staff at a nearby building putting a bag with the tablets, weighing 38 grams, near a letterbox at a home on Hume Street.
He was charged with drug trafficking and possession.
McLean, who was released from jail two or three months ago, told the magistrate he had been clean of drugs for several weeks.
“But yes, I did have a relapse,” he said.
He will return to court next Thursday.
