The probationary driver came to police attention about 7.20am on Sunday at Berrigan.
His vehicle went through an intersection at 100km/h, hit a road sign and fence, travelled into a paddock and ended up back on the roadside.
“I’m waiting for a mate,” the man said after being approached by police.
He had facial injuries and refused to give officers his licence or any identification.
He refused a breath test, before eventually handing over his Victorian P2 licence.
He resisted arrest and assaulted police as they tried to restrain him.
The driver returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.185 about an hour-and-a-half after the crash, which occurred on the Riverina Highway near Cobram Road.
He will be charged on summons with high-range drink driving, assaulting police and resisting arrest.
His licence has been suspended.
