New shoes, a backpack or a warm jumper can mean so much to those forced to make do with very little.

It’s why the Border Trust is hoping to capture the support of the Albury-Wodonga community with the Back To School challenge.

The national program, which is administered locally by the trust, distributes $50 Target vouchers to families who need help with school supplies.

The Trust launched the 2019 challenge on Thursday, with the goal to raise as much money as possible now that any funds raised will be matched by the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal.

“Without that money, kids might be going to school in ill-fitting shoes or otherwise,” Border Trust’s Glenys Atkins said.

“As an anonymous gift, it’s a really beautiful thing that supports children and families, they know there are people out there who care about them.”   

At the beginning of this year, the Trust distributed 949 vouchers to families across the region.
