“He gave me a good rocket,” the former Sydneysider said seconds after the thrilling 15-point win over Wangaratta in the league’s historic night final at Lavington Sportsground.
“I was probably getting a bit of uncontested footy, which is probably cheating a bit.”
McCaffrey had been quiet prior to setting up two goals, including charging away from the centre bounce to find Jordan Rouse.
“I asked all my senior players to lift at three-quarter time, Filo, McCaffrey, Jydon (Neagle), ‘Hodgy’ (Jarrod Hodgkin),” Cresswell said.
Hodgkin finished with 26 disposals, including the last goal of the game, Neagle was superb with four majors, while Raven Jolliffe (24 touches), Daniel Bowles and Jackson Kelly were also superb.
Joe Richards and Dylan Van Berlo were outstanding for the Pies.
