AN ARSONIST has admitted to intentionally causing a bushfire on the first day of summer last year.
Jason James McGrath started the fire in long grass on the side of the Chiltern-Rutherglen Road at Cornishtown.
Firefighters in 10 trucks spent nearly an hour at the property before the blaze was declared safe.
The incident started about 2.20am near Research Station Lane.
McGrath recently pleaded guilty in the Wodonga Magistrates Court to one count of intentionally causing a bushfire.
A second charge was withdrawn.
The matter will return to the Wodonga County Court circuit starting on October 22.
Other charges were also transferred.
McGrath, who has long scruffy hair and a beard, was largely quiet during his latest hearing.
No details were read out, but the fire appeared to have damaged fencing and grass at the Cornishtown property.
When asked if he wanted to plead guilty or not guilty, he quietly replied “guilty".
