The 26-year-old is looking to become a three-time premiership player with the Saints when they face Jindera in Saturday’s Hume League decider at Walbundrie.
Boulton played in the club’s 2013 flag and had a year with Port Douglas in 2015, before returning home to play a part in the 2016 premiership.
With Nico Sedgwick injured mid-season, Boulton was thrown into the Saints’ engine room where he more than held his own.
He also represented the Hume league in its interleague win against the Ovens and King in May.
Boulton was reunited with brothers Chris and Joe this season and the trio hasn’t featured in a premiership together since 2013 – the first for the merged entity.
“Chris turned up late, but it was good to see him return,” Boulton said.
“He was much-needed off half back, there was a lot of convincing needed, but we got him.
“It’s good to have us all back together.”
Jindera has every right to be edgy having lost the past two grand finals, but Boulton admitted the Saints are relaxed heading into a fourth decider in six years.
“They say bad things come in threes don’t they?” Boulton laughed.
“I think ‘Stevo’ (Saints’ coach Kade Stevens) is a lot more relaxed this year.
“That’s not to say he wasn’t last year, but I think coaching and playing is hard in your first year and I think he’s really stepped it up another level.
“We’ve also got Josh Koschitzke, Eddy Ziebarth and Aidan Johnson who are all great young players for us and they’re all pretty versatile.
“Aidan is my apprentice, sometimes we’ve got to try shut him up so he gets a bit of work done (laughs).
“Then there’s my age group where we’ve got three or four that have stepped up as leaders, which takes a bit of pressure off the older blokes.
“Bringing in the likes of Matty Seiter and Jeremy Luff helps as well.”
The grand final starts at 2.15pm.
