The leading senior constable has been charged following an internal Victoria Police investigation.
A statement released on Wednesday confirmed the officer had been charged with multiple offences.
The police officer will appear before the Wangaratta Magistrates Court on October 29.
The police media department only released limited details about what was alleged to have occurred during the incident.
But the officer has been charged with two counts of unlawful assault, theft of motor vehicle and attempted theft of motor vehicle.
The officer is also facing two charges of criminal damage, and charges of interfering with a motor vehicle and tampering with a motor vehicle.
“The Eastern Region policeman has been suspended without pay and will appear before a court at a later date,” police said in a statement.
