A standout for the small school’s agricultural team was taking out Champion Light Domestic Steer or Heifer (300-400kg) in the Hoof Competition for a steer bred by Leon Martin at Le Martres Beef.
“The judge looks at the animals live and makes a prediction as to how they will hang up as a carcase or on the hook,” agriculture teacher Ron Webb said.
“The steer weighed in at 374kg – this was our best result in this competition to date and we thank Leon Martin for his support of our program.”
The cattle team included 22 students and 14 cattle with 16 ribbons collected over two days of competition.
The school also achieved a first place in the Paraders Competition with Jemma Holmes winning the heat for her age group.
The school would like to thank all the breeders who supported its program.
Results for the Hook or Carcase Competition will be released late Saturday, September 29 and Mr Webb said there were high hopes the animals would hang up well on the hook.
