The Demons reached 9-177 from their 45 overs, but were in early trouble at 2-2 with the prized wicket of captain Andrew Creamer back in the sheds for one and Nick Hynes dismissed for a duck.
Mann (54) and Deans (59) steadied the ship and lower order contributions from Corey Jones (12 not out) and Jayden Dailey (10 not out) set the Spiders a tough task.
Aaron Hoskin was the chief destroyer with 4-19.
In reply, Howlong coach Tim Seymour (31) and Ben Dedic (15) put on 42 for the opening wicket, while Bernard Ruaro added 44, but it was only enough to see them reach 7-126 from their 45 overs.
Jones finished with 3-32, while Creamer picked up two wickets and conceded just seven runs from his nine overs.
Dederang sits second on the ladder after two rounds behind Yackandandah on percentage.
