The school will perform The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, a Tony-award winning musical comedy following a small-town spelling bee and the students competing in it.
Starring students Steve Scammell, Charlotte Kay, Teaghan Keen, Holy Kupa, Macca Kay, Chelsea Barton, Elijah Blake, Ashley Johnstone-Skerry and Brylee McKenzie, as well as a cameo from college principal Vern Hilditch, director Tanya Gower said excitement was reaching fever pitch among the cast and crew ahead of their first show this Wednesday.
“Basically, there hasn't been a production since the two senior schools merged,” Ms Gower said.
“It's exciting, the school has been really supportive of the production, they've wanted a whole school production for quite a while.
“This show has been on Broadway, we picked it because it's a nice and small, with a small cast.”
After such a long time between shows, cast member Charlotte Kay said it was exciting to bring a stage show back to the school.
“It's pretty incredible, my friends and I all do music together, we've been together so long as a team so it feels natural,” she said.
“It's really important (to us) to have a production, we have a really good music program and drama program.
“To have the two of them combined, I think, is really important for the school and the diversity of arts.
“You can expect lots of singing, lots of laughs, a bit of everything really.
“Whatever you don't expect, will probably be in the show.”
Musical director Lisa Cadman said the humour of the show was what set it apart.
“It's a really fun show – plus you can learn some new words, which is always handy,” she said.
“It's a very clever, witty little musical, it's a smaller scale production but is still very enjoyable
“It’s really good to have a production again, it’s been more than 10 years since the last one, we’ve done it now because we’ve had the right people put their hands up.
“Hopefully we can build something here and do more musicals from here on in.”
While the cast is comprised only of WSSC students this year, it is hoped future productions will include students from two Wodonga Middle Years College campuses.
Tickets to the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee are available to buy online, and can also be purchased from the Wodonga Senior Secondary College office, or by phone.
The show begins on Wednesday and will run through until October 20.
