Sergeant Erica Mulligan said in opposing a bail application by Jesse Raymond Dale Corrigan that it was claimed he followed her for “quite some time” last Friday around midday.
It was, she said, “quite a scary situation for a young girl to be involved in”.
Albury Local Court was told this week it was alleged Corrigan then followed the teenager into a supermarket car park.
“It would have been a very frightening act to have him follow her around and then tap on the car,” Sergeant Mulligan said.
She said police feared a “further escalation” in offending by Corrigan if he was released on bail.
But defence solicitor Tim Hemsley said any concerns could be met by strict conditions being imposed on the 30-year-old.
He proposed that Corrigan, who pleaded not guilty to committing an act of indecency with a person 16 years or over and to stalk or intimidate, live at his mother’s home in Springdale Heights under an overnight curfew and that he not be allowed out of the house unless in the company of his mother or his partner.
Magistrate Rodney Brender told Corrigan he was facing “pretty serious charges” and that “there are some risks of re-offending”.
“But I do note you are pleading not guilty,” he said.
Mr Brender granted bail on condition he lived with his mother, did not go within 50 metres of prosecution witnesses, did not leave the house without his mother or partner, that he observed an 8pm to 8am curfew and that either his mother or partner provided a $1000 surety.
The matter was adjourned to November 26.
